Guozhe was originally from Harbin in Northeastern China. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from Harbin Medical University, and his my Ph.D from Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) in 2004. At AECOM, he was trained in murine models of human cancer under the mentorship of Dr. Winfried Edelmann. He established a colorectal cancer mouse model with a single missense mutation in DNA mismatch repair gene MMS6. He did his postdoctoral studies at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he investigated pituitary hormones and bone remodeling in mice. In the Philips lab, he is involved in in vivo studies focusing on the cell biological responses of macrophages to TB infection.
